EPR Certificate
A Better Way to Conserve Nature
The EPR Certificate is a document issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India.
In 2011, the Government of India laid the foundation for the first legal framework based on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), making manufacturers accountable for the management of the end-of-life stage of their products in an environmentally friendly way and ensuring proper disposal.
An Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Certificate or Authorization is necessary for each producer and importer of electrical and electronic equipment. This measure contributes to the production of sustainable and green products.
According to CPCB norms, manufacturers and importers must enter into agreements with authorised recyclers for the collection and disposal of e-waste and submit EPR implementation plans indicating the estimated quantity of e-waste generated and the proposed method of disposal. These plans must be approved by the CPCB to issue the EPR Certificate.
The manufacturer of a particular product is accountable for its recycling, reuse, or safe disposal, making EPR a crucial step towards a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
