BIS Registration for Electronic Product

OTHER GENERAL INFORMATION

Manufacturing Units are the only ones who can obtain a BIS Registration Certificate in their own names; importers and traders are not permitted.

When placing an order for a scheduled electronic item, all importers and traders must register with BIS for their specific production unit. They can manage the BIS Registration process on behalf of the applicable industrial unit. The manufacturing facility may be required to get BIS Registration under the importer's or trader's brand name.

Since an Indian Representative is necessary for BIS Registration, an importer or trader may function as the Indian Representative for a foreign manufacturing unit.

Every product must have a distinct marking label that cannot be removed, scratched off, or erased by normal washing. It is recommended that the goods be marked with an embossed or printed label. A printed metal plate with a label that is securely fastened to the items is another excellent option.

The product marking label must have the following information:

*Name of the Good (Category)
*Brand Name Model Number Power Input/Output Rating
*Manufacturer's Name, Country of Origin (Like Made In India, Made In China etc.)

Further information on the marking label is optional and can be included based on the product's specific requirements.

If your product fits at least one of the conditions listed below and you manufacture or import the products on the Required BIS Registration List:

  • Three-phase power supply equipment
  • Device powered by a single-phase electrical supply and rated at more than 16 amps, OR
  • Equipment measuring more than 1.5 m × 0.8 m, OR
  • Equipment weighing more than 80 kg.

Futhermore, you import or produce fewer than 100 units each year.

The applicant's (the manufacturer's) business license is necessary for BIS Registration. A business licence performs the following functions:

Government agencies should issue company licences.
In the business scope, the terms "manufacturing" and "production" must be utilised.

An exact English translation (in the same format), as well as a copy of the original licence,  are required (if it is issued in another Language)
Both copies must be sealed and signed by the applicant (the original and the English version).
The company licences that do not include manufacturing or production as part of their business scope will be rejected.

The tested samples must be collected again three months, but no later than four months, after the test result was provided. The lab reserves the right, in accordance with its policy, to destroy the sample after 4 months, and no further claims will be considered.

Furthermore, while being tested, the sample may undergo whole or partial damage. Any such claim will be rejected by Lab and UMSPCS INDIA.
